Barcelona’s players have elected the superb attacking midfielder, Andres Iniesta, as their new captain, following the departure of Xavi Hernandez from the Nou Camp to Qatari club Al-Sadd.

Popularly known as El Ilusionista due to his willingness to play anywhere on the pitch and his ability to dazzle the opposition with his exquisite skills, the midfieder will be leading the team as being one of the most senior-most player in the team currently and will have the task to guide the treble winners to fight for six trophies this season as the they would be fighting for UEFA Super Cup, Spanish Super Cup and the Club World Cup as well this year.

Javier Mascherano was also announced as the club’s fourth captain following Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquest at second and third position.

Gerrard Pique missed out from the list as the player had previously spoken of his desire to be a Barca captain but Mascherano had the backing of Luis Enrique, who had appreciated the Argentine’s leadership abilities.

The Blaugrana gaffer, Luis Enrique told a pre-Joan Gamper Trophy Press conference that he was ‘happy’ with the choice of Mascherano.
