Confusion around Final Fantasy’s exclusivity for PS5

So what exactly was the real story behind it? Thankfully, industry analyst Piers Harding-Rolls provided the answers. He took to Twitter to make things clearer, where he said, “To clarify: #FinalFantasyXVI is a full exclusive for 6 months (after which it can come to non-console platforms) & a console exclusive for 12 months (after which it can also come to other consoles) Timing and platform support is totally down to SE’s dev efforts…”

He further explained, “There is no official confirmation of FF XVI coming to PC, however the structure of the deal and the mention in the Sony PS5 showcase does suggest this is the case. When this arrives after the 6 months contractual period is up is obviously down to SE.”

Sony’s event was largely successful, but what followed was utterly chaotic. The miscommunication regarding the pre-orders created a huge ruckus on social media. Customers had absolutely no idea where they could pre-order the console from, and it was another miss on Sony’s part. They need to rectify this and hopefully, another pre-order date will be announced soon.

More information regarding Final Fantasy 16 will come in 2021, along with a possible launch announcement.
