A renowned Bangladeshi newspaper, Prothom Alo, has shown utter disrespect towards the Indian Cricket Team by publishing a fake ‘cutter’ advertisement in its weekly supplement ‘Rosh Alo’.

In the advertisement, as many as seven Indian players were shown with their head half shaven. MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin and Shikhar Dhawan were the Indian cricketers shown in the advertisement.

The advertisement is present on the front page of ‘Rosh Alo’ and shows the fast bowling sensation Mustafizur Rahman, who took 13 wickets in the series, with a ‘cutter’. The ad was in reference to Mustafizur’s deceptive off cutters which made him the best bowler in the series. The advertisement carries a text at top which says: “We’ve used it. You can use it too”.

In Indian traditions, half-shaven heads are considered as a sign of humiliation. After Bangladesh had won the series against India, many sections of the Bangladeshi media celebrated the victory with great aplomb, but this advertisement by Prothom Alo comes across as something which is not only disgraceful, but completely uncalled for.

This incident comes after Indian fan Sudhir Gautam was attacked by a Bangladeshi mob and stones were pelted at his auto after the second ODI.

While Bangladesh’s Cricket Team maybe on the rise and might have played as champion side, but the same can’t be said about the overly emotional Bangla fans and immature media.
