Immediately after the chat, India lost two wickets in that over. Sheldon Cottrel picked KL Rahul and Virat Kohli off slower balls and India were reduced to 25 for 2. Rohit Shrama soon followed after contributing 36 runs to the Indian innings. Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant then solidified the Indian innings with a partnership of 114 runs. In the process, Iyer reached his fifth consecutive half century in ODIs.

“I feel it’s a really good achievement for me,” Iyer told Star Sports during the innings break. “I would look to continue with the good form.”

Iyer praised his partner Pant after the duo’s partnership helped India get back into the game after a bad start.

“It was important for us not to lose wicket so I didn’t take risks,” he said. But when offie came into the attack, I decided to take him on. Me and Rishabh really constructed this partnership well. Rishabh is a kind of a batsman who can change the momentum of the game and that’s what he did today. I told him to hit straight. He listened to me and delivered really well.

Important contributions from Kedar Jadhav and Ravindra Jadeja led India to a total of 287 in their 50 overs. Jadhav was caught out on 41, while Jadeja’s run out at 21 arose some confusion towards the end of the Indian innings.
