KL Rahul has been going through a purple patch in his career. From opening the innings to keep the wickets – he has been doing all. He scored a match-winning knock in the second ODI against Australia at Rajkot on Friday (January 17). He was adjudged Player-of-the-Match and he said that he’s enjoying different responsibilities.

Rishabh Pant didn’t play the second game due to concussion. In his absence, Rahul donned the wicketkeeping gloves and successfully did a stumping as well. He smashed 52-ball-80 while batting at number 5.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better start. Each day I’ve been thrown different roles and responsibilities and I’m enjoying it for now,” he said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

“Batting at No.5, I wanted to give myself a few balls, you know what the wicket is doing and Virat said that it’s coming on nicely. A few came off the middle, and I was confident I could score, and everything else faded away. Glad I got some partnerships going and played my role to the best of my abilities,” he further added.

Even, wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav also praised his keeping. Kuldeep said his keeping was good in the game. Although Rahul used to don the wicketkeeping gloves while growing up, he didn’t keep in his first-class team. However, he did keep for Karnataka in the National One Dayers and in the shortest format. Even, he hoped to keep his bowlers happy with his keeping.

As far as the game is concerned, while batting first, Team India posted a decent competitive total of 340 for 6 on the back of Dhawan’s 96, Rahul’s quickfire 80 off 52 and Virat Kohli’s 78. In response, Australia were bundled within 304 where Steve Smith scored 98. Kuldeep Yadav picked up 2 wickets while Mohammed Shami picked up 3. Navdeep Saini also took 2 for India.
