French tennis star Gael Monfils has found a new form in 2022. The veteran has been on the ATP Tour for a considerable amount of time and has often troubled the best players in the game. 

At the Australian Open 2022, Monfils has been playing exceptionally well, reaching the quarterfinal for the second time, the previous being in 2016.

Gael Monfils is enjoying a great run in Melbourne 

Upon reaching the quarterfinal, the Frenchman has issued a warning that he is not done yet and is aiming to continue displaying the dominant tennis that he has been doing this past week.

The Paris-born player stated, “I don’t know if it’s a secret, but I guess is a lot of work, a lot of belief, strong mindset, you know, coming up this new season, you know, and just want to be better in 2022 than 2021. Of course a bit of luck with everything. I’m not finished yet.”

Hard work is paying off 

During the off-season, Gael was training hard and concentrated on maintaining a strong mindset. He does accept that he has had luck on his side but has worked hard since the end of last season. The former World No. 6 mentioned that he is far from done at the moment.

Everyone remembers last year when Gael Monfils lost to Matteo Berrettini 4-6, 2-6 in the ATP Cup group stage. Turns out he has come very far after that setback.

The 35-year-old added, “To be honest, (it’s) just like hard work. As I say, last year at the end of the season, I was feeling great, feeling better. I was very close, and I think at the beginning just like keep, as I said, believe and working hard, and I was a little bit more luck at the beginning of the season, and so far, you know, so good.”
