Manchester United, Manchester City and Barcelona faced a major setback as long-term target Ilkay Gundogan signed a contract extension with Borussia Dortmund.

The German midfielder ended the long-going transfer speculation about his future by putting pen to paper today.

The 24 year-old German midfielder, who was earlier reported to be leaving the club after Dortmund’s club president had announced it a few weeks ago, has performed a complete U-turn.

Gundogan has been one of the finest midfielders in the Bundesliga for 3-4 years, and has a Bundesliga and German Cup medal while having also participated in a Champions League final.
