Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga will leave the team following their ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 match against Bangladesh, which is scheduled to be played today, as his Mother-In-Law has passed away. He is expected to join the team, before the team’s next ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 game, which will be played against Australia on 15th.

The Sri Lanka Cricket announced on Tuesday that Lasith Malinga will depart for Colombo after his match at Bristol to attend his Mother-in-law’s funeral in Sri Lanka.

The statement released by SLC read, “Lasith Malinga will leave the team following Sri Lanka s World Cup Game against Bangladesh, which will be played today, as his Mother-In-Law has passed away. The remains of late Mrs. Kanthi Perera lie at the Barney Raymond Funeral Home at Colombo 08 and the funeral will take place on Thursday, 13th June at the Borella Cemetery.”

Sri Lanka’s strike bowler at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, Lasith Malinga has played two matches against New Zealand and Afghanistan and picked up three wickets for his team.

Sri Lanka did not have had the best of the starts at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 as the team was defeated by the Blackcaps by 10 wickets in their opening match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. However, they came back in their next match as they defeated Afghanistan by 34 runs in a low scoring match. Their next match was abandoned due to rain against Pakistan.

Sri Lanka already faced a blow when their fast bowler, Nuwan Pradeep was ruled out of the match against Bangladesh as he dislocated his finger during practice.

Sri Lanka’s team manager, Asantha De Mel said in a statement, “Nuwan was given treatment at the hospital, while the doctors reset his dislocated finger and the cut on his finger was closed with stitches. He was also administered with antibiotics. Pradeep will not take part in Sri Lanka’s game against Bangladesh on Tuesday, as he will need a week’s time to recover from the injury.”

Sri Lanka will face Australia on Saturday at the Oval, London when Lasith Malinga is expected to join the squad.
