The Tampa Bay Buccaneers game against the New Orleans Saints on week 2 of the 2022 season was filled with a lot of drama. Not only did the Tom Brady-led side become victorious, breaking the 7-0 losing streak, but also paved the way for wide receiver Mike Evans to get ejected in the second quarter. Former Buccaneers cornerback Richard Sherman responded to the issue, saying he would have reacted the same way Evans did.

Initially, the issue began with a back-and-forth between the Buccaneers’ quarterback Tom Brady and Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore. Brady thought that the CB interfered in an incomplete pass to Scotty Miller and thus exchanged words with him.
Soon Lattimore tried getting under the QB’s skin and lashed at running back Leonard Fournette. This back and forth led Mike Evans, who has a long-time beef with Lattimore, to charge from the sidelines back to the field. Pulling the cornerback out and resulting in a serious brawl. Both the players got ejected in the second quarter for unsportsmanlike conduct. During the podcast, Richard Sherman affirmed that if he was in a similar situation, he would have done the same.

“I’m a let you know something. I wish I would have come off the sideline as Mike Evans did against your boy Lattimore.” Said Sherman, “I wish I would have done that now.” He added. Moreover, this act has also barred Evans from playing in the next game against the Green Bay Packers, a one-game suspension that Tom Brady called ”ridiculous”.
“It’s an unfortunate circumstance. I don’t think it deserved any type of suspension; I think that’s ridiculous. Hopefully, we can move past it and get to a better place.” Brady said in the recent segment of the Let’s Go! Podcast.
Tom Brady believes he deserves some blame for Mike Evans’ suspension
The Buccaneers’ locker room is deprived of healthy players. Their receiver corps has become more fragile with Evans out. While speaking in the podcast, Brady admitted that if he hadn’t been involved in a verbal argument, the suspension could have been avoided.

“Obviously if I didn’t run down there to argue with the call … if things weren’t said back and forth between both teams, it could’ve been avoided,” Brady said. The circumstances are much different on the field. And when players lose their cool, it’s often hard to control them.

Evans’ absence will result in a hit for the receiver corps. Although the Packers have a young squad in the offensive unit, they can’t be underestimated. It will be interesting to see how well the Buccaneers continue their winning streak in the upcoming games.
