World No.6 Stefanos Tsitsipas clinched the year-end tournament at the ATP Finals 2019. The victory also made the Greek sensation one of the players to watch out for to make a breakthrough at the Grand Slams in 2020.

The Big Three, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic, are dominating the Major events from the past decade and a half, sharing 56 Grand Slam titles between them. Moreover, no other player outside the ‘Big 3’ has won a Major title since the 2016 US Open.

“I shouldn’t be looking so far so soon” – Stefanos Tsitsipas

However, Tsitsipas was confident of breaking the Big three’s stranglehold this year. The 21-year-old also recalled his statement and admitted it was “too big” to be taken seriously. Moreover, this also burdened him with extra pressure.

“Looking back to that I think this was too big of a statement to be taken seriously. I shouldn’t be looking so far so soon,” Tsitsipas told Tennis Majors.

“For sure, I want it to come, but I should be talking about stuff like this less often and concentrate on the present,” he continued.

“I guess I just put too much pressure on myself, aiming so high and I just have to take it step by step, not think too much about the future and be irrational,” Tsitsipas added.

Tsitsipas has already made some giant strides so far in his career. He has defeated Nadal on clay, Djokovic on hard and Federer in a Grand Slam. Moreover, he has also managed to reach the semifinals at the Australian Open and fourth round of the French Open.

He certainly has the capability to make a breakthrough at the Majors. However, the coronavirus pandemic has brought the tennis tour to a standstill for more than two months, and Tsitsipas will certainly hope it resumes soon.
