We often see cricketers are playing football as par part of their warm-up. Here is big news for every Rohit Sharma fan as Spanish league LaLiga on Thursday announced the flamboyant India opener as their first brand ambassador in India. The Managing Director, LaLiga India, Jose Antonio Cachaza, announced that Rohit Sharma had become the league’s first-ever non-footballer brand ambassador in India.

Rohit Sharma, who has been going through a purple patch with the bat, said he was excited when LaLiga asked him to be their brand ambassador. He also rated former India captain, MS Dhoni, as the best footballer of the India team.

“While growing up I have seen a lot of football matches it was always a good break from cricket.” Rohit Sharma said. “I think MS Dhoni is the best footballer in our team.”

He also shared his views on the status of football in India.

“My brother-in-law is an avid football fan. He wanted to take up football professionally but at that point, infrastructure was not available. But today he can do it with the facilities that are available. It takes time for any sport to develop in a country. Look at where we were now in the 1930s in cricket and look where we have reached now. I hope it doesn’t take that much time for football. We want to see them play on the international stage soonest,” added the right-handed batsman.

Rohit Sharma said he loves to play as a mid-fielder when the Indian cricket team plays football as their warms up before any match.

“The captain decides who plays where. I love playing as a midfielder during warm-up matches because that’s the most challenging spot. Football is played as a warm-up because it brings us together as a team makes our body active,” he shared.

On the other hand, Cachaza also expressed that over the past two years, many initiatives have been taken and India has a huge potential for football too. He even said that they are looking to increase their fan base n India.

”Rohit Sharma is the perfect example of this, in spite of being the most renowned face in Indian cricket right now, he is also an ardent football and LaLiga fan. In his persona on and off the field, Rohit embodies the La Liga standards and principles. We are elated to have him as LaLiga’s first-ever non-football brand ambassador and as the face of our brand in India,” he concluded.
