In episode 6 of ‘The Captain’ docuseries, Hannah Jeter reveals the first conversation with Derek about his retirement. The legendary shortstop wanted to leave behind the crazy baseball schedule. Furthermore, she said that she thought he was ready to retire.
In ‘The Captain’, Hannah said, “We had a real conversation about what life was gonna look like after his career. And, he talked to me about ‘I’m ready to get off this crazy schedule and timeline and things’, so I think he was ready.” Another factor that Jeter mentioned is that playing baseball had begun to feel like a job for him.

That was what put the nail into the coffin of his Hall Of Fame career. Derek does not regret the decision at all and has since focused solely on family. Furthermore, fatherhood changed his outlook on life. Fans can be happy though, as they will get to see Derek on TV in a new role.
The legendary shortstop will be an analyst this year
In a surprising move earlier this year, Derek Jeter joined Fox Sports as an MLB analyst starting. He will cover All-Star weekend, the MLB London Games, and the postseason games for the season. Jeter will be available for select games probably because he doesn’t want to get into another rough schedule.
