For years, I just didn’t talk about it. You’re taught to just get through it, especially growing up as a boy nobody really talked about feeling the pressure,” said the Olympic champion.

Seeing other athletes being vocal about mental wellness and expressing their feelings openly, comforted White. Moreover, it inspired him to do the same.

Having other athletes talk about it was really inspiring to me, so then I started talking about it, because it affects us all, even people outside of athletics. Nowadays, I just talk about it. I just bring it up. I don’t pretend it’s not happening,” he added.

Earlier this year, gymnastics legend Simone Biles withdrew from her events, prioritizing her mental health over success. Seeking inspiration from the same, the Olympian stepped out of his comfort zone and opened on his struggles.

I think that’s the best part of life. You don’t have to stick to one lane. What’s your passion and what are you into? Just because you’re creative in one area doesn’t mean you can’t transcend other things,” said the Olympian.

White’s perspective of looking at life is unique and interesting. Clearly, the athlete believes in making the most out of each day. However, will he make the most of his 5th Olympic appearance next year?
