Andy Murray and his great comeback run came to an end after a straight-set defeat to Milos Raonic at the Western & Southern Open. The run included a great victory against World No.7 Alexander Zverev.
Murray was outstanding against Zverev in the previous round but couldn’t repeat it versus Raonic. In a lackluster performance, Murray lost with an embarrassing scoreline of 6-2 6-2.

“I’m not happy with that level of performance” – Andy Murray
After the match, Murray reviewed his performance and was quite gutted. He was seriously disappointed and unhappy with himself and vowed to reduce his mistakes.
“It was poor. Yeah, didn’t play well. Was not a good day. I was really not happy with that at all. I have much higher standards than that. Not good enough tonight,” Murray said.
But Murray also was looking at the positives. After a long time, he showed glimpses of his older self. His main target is to do well in the US Open. Right now, his hip feels good and physically, he has no issues.
“I mean, the positives are I got three matches in. You know, physically I pulled up okay. Today, I don’t know. I don’t know if it was because I was fatigued or not, but I didn’t feel particularly tired but I certainly was hitting some pretty bad tennis shots,” he said.

“I’m not happy with that level of performance, to be honest. Yeah, clearly a lot of work to do on my game over the next few days before the US Open starts,” he added.
Murray has a couple of days to rectify the mistakes he made before the US Open begins next week. The Western & Southern Open has been a rollercoaster. In the few rounds of matches, we have seen a lot of big names exiting the tournament. Andy Murray will be looking to go long in the US Open and improve his confidence and rankings.
