Twitch recently banned prominent streamers Indiefoxx and Amouranth, which has started a massive debate around the misuse of the ASMR category on the platform. While some fans have been actively protesting against the bans, creators like xQc and Pokimane feel differently.

Instead of sympathizing with Amouranth and Indiefoxx, Pokimane feels bad for ‘genuine’ ASMR creators. She has herself created ASMR content during the initial days of her career and naturally understands the hard work required to stream under this category.

Back in 2019, Pokimane did her last ASMR video on the popular poki ASMR channel. Even though fans absolutely loved her exploring this genre, the streamer could not continue it for long because it cost too much time and effort. This explains why Pokimane is rather worried about legitimate ASMR creators, and not Indiefoxx or Amouranth.

“I haven’t heard a lot of people say this, but I do kind of personally wanna add that I feel really really bad for legitimate ASMR artists,” said Pokimane.

She further added, “I actually stopped making ASMR videos primarily because I noticed, like how much effort and dedication it takes to continuously upgrade your equipment, to continuously come up with creative new ways to make cool sounds that are intriguing to people. It’s a lot of ***** work,”

Here’s a post on r/LivestreamFail that covered Pokimane’s recent statements:

Anys has certainly portrayed the struggles of ASMR creators in the best way possible. Not many realize that creating influential ASMR videos is only possible with considerable investments in equipment. Moreover, one needs to always come up with fresh and unique ideas that can engage the listeners.

What is the future of Twitch’s ASMR category?

Pokimane strongly believes that legitimate ASMR streamers on Twitch aren’t getting the recognition they deserve. Unfortunately, big names have hijacked the category who do not even put in the desired effort.

“When people come into your category, and get to the top of it by doing the splits with their but*s out, and like gurgling. I just feel bad for them, it sucks, it’s unfortunate and I feel that it doesn’t do them justice. It doesn’t do the category justice.”
