Israel Adesanya is doing his part to help his people fight the pandemic. He has made a promise that will go a long way in this battle against COVID-19.
Israel Adesanya, New Zealand’s sportsman for the year 2019 has come forth and promised to donate 10,000 three-ply face masks and 1000 eye protection face shields for Whanganui’s frontline health staff. And all this will be borne out of his own pocket.
The UFC middleweight champion said it’s only a small act but will hopefully go a long way. He said, “I can’t do it for the whole world, but I can help the communities I know, the places that I have been a part of.”

He also will make contributions to Auckland, the city he currently lives in. Along with the Nigerian city of Lagos, where he was born. Adesanya has decided to supply Personal Protective Equipment or PPE to these cities.
Israel Adesanya’s connection to Whanganui comes from his teenage years. He developed an interest in MMA when he lived in Whanganui and began his kickboxing career here. His family still lives here, with his mother, Tai, a nurse in the emergency department at Whanganui Hospital.
Israel Adesanya has made a huge difference
Whanganui District Health Board (DHB) chief executive Russell Simpson was humbled by this gesture and said, “The DHB is extremely grateful that Israel has DHB staff and the healthcare community in his thoughts as we fight against COVID-19. On behalf of all of the staff at Whanganui DHB, we thank him for his generous donation.”

The kits are expected to arrive at their destination within the next two weeks. Adesanya’s contribution and generosity come as a great inspiration to us all. It shows us, making efforts, no matter how small, will go a long way in helping fight this global pandemic. We need to do as much as we can to help our people fight this and help recover as soon as possible.

Israel Adesanya has almost single-handedly stocked up the PPE kits and has assured that there will be no reuse or recycling of these kits. It’s a matter of life and death and must be used with at most caution.
