The fight didn’t go ahead as ‘Drago’ became ill, but ‘The Demolition Man’ kept his eye on the Russian. He said, “He definitely grew as a fighter (since then), but I also grew as a fighter, and I think I am the most dangerous fight right now… The timing for me is perfect, and it is what it is.

Alistair Overeem comments on Volkov’s height advantage

‘Drago’ also has a reach significant reach advantage, along with his massive frame, over Overeem, which Mike Bohn also addressed in the interview. Overeem may have to make certain adjustments on February 6, but given his extensive fighting career, on paper disadvantages may not dissuade him one bit.

He referenced the height advantage when he said, “Volkov is unique because he’s really tall. There aren’t that many guys over there that have that reach advantage over you. He is definitely going to move differently. I am more used to fighting guys that are shorter than me or my size. It’s going to be an interesting fight.

He explained that he plans to win the UFC belt and then retire immediately. Given his age, ranking, and his ambition, Overeem will be extremely dangerous as he is running out of time.
