Valorant closed-beta showed the world how to dominate the gaming circuit with a clean sweep. In just a month, they accomplished more than established games did. Even players are quitting their games (competitive) to focus more on Valorant. It definitely looks like the competitive scene for Valorant is developing gradually.

However, this 5v5 tactical shooter game has something which is too easy to miss. To succeed at Valorant, one has to know all the ins and outs of each character. Sometimes repetitive play with one character makes us utterly blind towards the others and their abilities.

Valorant characters have unique abilities, which makes the game so much more different from Overwatch or CS:GO. These abilities need particular focus to master. One has to get in the skin of a character to know the difference between others. While the pros like rotating their characters, its good to stick to one to get the rhythm of it.

Why choosing the right agent is important in Valorant?

Picking the right agent in Valorant is essential when it comes to gaining the upper hand. The varied range these characters offer is too alluring to ignore. However, one has to assess their skills and choose the perfect fit character. For example, if you love covert counter-play, then Cypher or Omen might be your best choice.

All these characters have their strengths and weaknesses. Exploiting these takes a lot of practice and depends mostly on a player’s style. Aggressive players naturally gravitate to agents like Phoenix or Raze or Brimstone. While passive players try to understand the situation before they start attacking. Typically, they select characters like Cypher, Sova, Omen.

Usually, players love Jet, Phoenix, Viper, and Sova. After the latest update (0.47 patch), Raze got a little nerfed; otherwise, she would make that list too. Subsequently, players are quite taken by Sova and Viper. Their abilities allow them to hunt from afar and plant the spike safely. Viper, on the other hand, has the added ability to use Poison Cloud and Toxic Screen together. Similarly, if your style is based on helping you team rather than poisoning the other, then Sage might be your best choice.

Character selection decides the outcome of a match. Suppose one chooses Phoenix, but their style is rather countering the opponents move – then it becomes a bad choice. Some characters are specifically designed for aggressive push-play, while others like to attack from distance. All in all, one should self-assess their playing style before jumping to the best looking/strongest character. Always remember, the player only defines the style of a character.
