Tennis Australia has made it clear that players will be allowed to practice but not be allowed to play any competitive tennis during this duration. Considering that the players will assemble by January 8, this will mean their quarantine period would be over by January 22. This gives a clear indication that this year, the Australian Open should commence from February 1.
It makes sense for players to follow these protocols. To ensure smoothness and avoid any possibility of players contracting the virus such norms should be followed.

Players will have around 8-10 days for preparations. Those participating will need to make some necessary adjustments since the current circumstances call for some compromises.
