Riding on a horse, chasing a thrill, experiencing an adrenaline rush, and running along with winds are what the equestrian arena promises to give its pursuers. However, sometimes, horseback riding may end up with brutal lacerations and mishaps. Along similar lines, in 2019, a young equestrian enthusiast fell prey to a ferocious accident while riding on the majestic creature and became a victim of some severe injuries.

Back in 2019, Yorkshire-based young equestrian Emily Eccles was saddled up on a horse and was making strides in the field. However, after a while, the horse bolted toward the gatepost and Eccles ripped off from the saddle and banged her head into the gatepost. What came next is a plea for help and an unprecedented scene of blood and horror.

She was immediately taken to the Sheffield Children’s Hospital after she found herself lying on the floor with the bottom of her face in her own hands. She explained how the incident took place.

She said she was out riding with a friend and her family when her horse was spooked by an exhaust popping on a car. Her horse galloped on a country path but in that duration Emily’s feet came out of the stirrups and she fell to one side, where her head hit a wooden post. Following this, Eccles went through one of the most frightening facial injuries her doctors have ever seen. Her injuries were so horrifying that her friends stated her injury like “Some kind of zombie.”

According to Sky News Emily had in mind that she caught something red which flashed in front of her face when she fell. She expressed, “I just looked down and I was like, ‘I don’t know what it is’.” She added further, once she went into the ambulance, “I just looked down and I could see teeth and bone and I said, ‘is that my jaw?’.” The little girl thought her injury looked like something you see in a film.

Emilly Eccles had multiple thoughts after the accident. She thought, “I don’t know what I’m going to do, I’m not going to look like me, I’m not going to have the same kind of life as I did before.” But this was not at all true. The teenager and her mother are thankful to her doctor Mr. Mohammed-Ali who is a facial reconstructive surgeon. He did a five-and-a-half hour long operation which was so successful that she was back at school for the start of term which was just one month after the accident.
