For quite some time fans of the Silent Hill franchise were waiting for an announcement from PlayStation. The iconic Konami series was rumored to make a comeback to PS5 as a reboot. The horror game was first reported to be a project between Hideo Kojima and popular film director Guillermo del Toro.

After Kojima’s departure from Konami, the rumor was they had shelved the project. Since then, Kojima has denied everywhere about his involvement with Silent Hill or Metal Gear Solid games. However, rumors suggest that Konami and Kojima have entered an agreement that allows Kojima to complete his works prior to his departure from the studio.

Sony is also allegedly a part of this deal which further triggered the initial PS5 reboot rumor for Silent Hill.

What is new with the Silent Hill reboot for PlayStation rumors?

While none of the PlayStation events before launch made a peep about Silent Hill, this tweet just after the launch aroused more suspicion.

While some Metal Gear Solid fans chose to believe what suited their purpose, the Silent Hill rumors strengthened. The Game Awards 2020 was supposed to be the stage where the news would finally be broken to the world.

Nonetheless, nothing of the sort happened, and it convinced fans that this rumor was wayward from the beginning. But industry insider @AestheticGamer1, also known as ‘Dusk Golem’, engaged in a thread in ResetEra which again raises hope for the horror franchise’s reboot.

He claims to be the first person to have started this rumor and confirms his previous statements in this thread. He still believes the sources that provided him the initial information couple of years back are genuine.

In mid-2020, a good acquaintance of mine knew I was talking about the Silent Hill rumors. They didn’t tell me anything specifically, but they are working with Konami on something entirely unrelated to all of this.

“They just gave me a nudge to let me know they were “mighty positive” something Silent Hill was in the works currently, wouldn’t tell me any more than that (and that’s fair, they have a personal leg in the race), but were fine joining the list of people who know and can corroborate it for me.

As it is with any rumor, there cannot be any absolute confirmation about this. With Konami’s lack of interest in gaming for quite some years now, there might not be any Silent Hill game on the cards.

Here’s hoping there is some confirmation soon. There is still a very motivated base for the game that is eagerly waiting for a ray of light.
