Spanish superstar Rafael Nadal has been playing some incredible tennis at the French Open. This may have come as a surprise to a lot of people as the conditions this year do not suit his game. However, 6-time Grand Slam champion Boris Becker hasn’t been too surprised by this and said:

“In an example of how Rafa is always prepared to adapt his game, it looks like he has been flattening out his strokes in the early rounds. Given the slow balls and conditions his usual heavy spin is not quite so effective, so he is hitting through the court more. Before the tournament he complained about the balls, yet he and the other two main contenders have just gone about their business once the matches got underway.”

It is great to see that Rafael Nadal has adapted his game to the new conditions. He had to do this as he is chasing one of the biggest records in tennis; that of the most Grand Slams. It is currently being held by Roger Federer, but the Spaniard is just one major away.

Since Rafa has won the French Open 12 times, many are expecting him to equal it very easily. However, his path to achieving that this year is going to be very tough.

In the quarterfinals today, Rafa will be facing young Jannik Sinner, who just beat Alexander Zverev. In addition to this, he could face Dominic Thiem in the semis. Clearly, this is a very difficult challenge, but considering the champion that Rafa is, he has the potential to overcome this obstacle.
