The holiday season is a time for surprises, and sometimes, those surprises come wrapped in a little more than tinsel and bows. For Carrollton High School’s 3-Star, CJ Gamble, Christmas delivered a gift all the way from Ky that could make any recruit pause—and not just because of its timing. A simple yet intriguing gesture from Louisville football had him and the CFB world buzzing about what might be brewing in the Bluegrass State.
It all started with a festive message that CJ Gamble quickly shared on his Instagram story. “Dear CJ, Wishing you and your family a Joyous holidays. We’re excited about your future and look forward to great things ahead,” read the official letter from the Louisville Cardinals’ football staff.
That’s right—a holiday card that might not have been just a kind gesture. The Stunned LB, ranked 50th in Georgia, had nothing to say. He simply tagged the Cardinals’ official account. Could it be Louisville’s way of hinting at more than just well wishes? It’s not every day a recruit gets a personalized note that reads more like the opening lines of a pitch than a generic season greeting. We smell a future Cardinal here, probably. You never know.

The timing of this gesture couldn’t be more intriguing. CJ Gamble, a key linebacker for Carrollton High and teammate of four-star prodigal passer Julian Lewis, is already on the radar of powerhouse programs like Tennessee. The 6-foot-1.5, 205-pound athlete plays with the kind of physicality and agility that has scouts double-checking his star ranking. While he’s flown under the radar compared to some of his peers, Gamble’s play style—a blend of brute force and fluid athleticism—has earned him a growing list of admirers. Louisville, however, might have just pulled the ultimate recruitment wildcard with this move.
Louisville’s football program, fresh off an 8-4 season, has been searching for momentum to carry into the next chapter. After a rollercoaster year, which included dominant wins like their 41-14 Governor’s Cup triumph over Kentucky, the Cardinals are looking to capitalize on their strong finish. Sending a heartfelt holiday message to Gamble is more than just a thoughtful touch; it’s a strategic play. For a team that prides itself on building relationships with recruits, this kind of personal connection could be the spark they need to land an emerging star like Gamble.
For Gamble, it could be the gamble of his life. It’s a symbol of how much Louisville values his potential. And who could blame him? In the ultra-competitive world of college football recruiting, where every gesture is scrutinized and every offer dissected, this note stands out for its simplicity and sincerity. It’s the kind of move that could make a player stop and think: maybe Louisville isn’t just wishing me happy holidays—they’re envisioning me in red and black.

As the Cardinals prepare for Tuesday’s Sun Bowl against Washington, their festive outreach to Gamble adds a touch of holiday drama to an already fascinating recruiting landscape.
Will CJ Gamble play this gamble?
The new-age prototypical linebacker, who’s very versatile. This past season at Carrollton, he lined up primarily at the dawg backer position but took snaps at the edge as well. CJ Gamble had already had spring practice back in April with Georgia Tech. He picked up an offer from Tennessee in June and visited the Vols again for their ‘Big Orange Kickoff’ event a few months ago.

So, Cardinal’s surprise wish could be a potential offer; there is no harm in chasing a highly touted recruit. Especially when big SEC programs like Georgia Tech’s defensive coordinator Tyler Santucci has an interest in him. Gamble shared his thoughts on if he could fit in Coach Santucci’s defense. “Yes, I definitely think I would fit right into Santucci’s defense. Everything that their linebackers do is similar to what we are doing at Carrollton,” he said.
Nevertheless, Louisville seemed to try and may have just delivered the ultimate stocking stuffer.
