Could Julian Lewis be the game-changer the Colorado Buffs desperately need post-Shedeur Sanders?

The Colorado Buffs are gearing up for their next recruiting cycle, looking for the next standout player to fill the shoes of their star quarterback, Shedeur Sanders. And this time, all eyes are on Julian ‘JuJu’ Lewis, a five-star quarterback from Carrollton High School. Not only is Lewis one of the top-ranked prospects in the 2025 class, but landing a talent like him would feel like hitting the jackpot. With recent developments, that dream seems closer than ever—Lewis might just be the answer to replacing Sanders, who’s expected to head to the NFL next year.

Even Julian Lewis indicated the same thing through his Instagram story, sharing a post made by rivalsdotcom saying, “Julian Lewis is visiting Colorado this weekend.” Now, JuJu will be visiting Folsom Field for the Buffs game against Cincinnati this Saturday. Well, even though it’s great news for the Buffs, Julian’s sudden shift of opinion is quite surprising, knowing his commitment to the USC Trojans.

Well, this is not the first time Julian Lewis will visit Colorado University. The sought-after player has made three visits to the Buffs and already met head coach Deion Sanders in June. Surprising, isn’t it? Despite visiting him three times, the Buffs still had no luck with him. Now the question arises: is this their last chance, or has Julian already been convinced?

Lewis last visited the Buffs in June, and by all accounts, the trip left quite an impression. “It was a cool weekend. I met a lot of good people while I was in Boulder and definitely noticed the things they did around town,” he shared. The warm welcome from the Boulder community—and even a burger named after him—made the visit memorable. While he’s still considering his options and may need more visits to decide, the Buffs are already pulling out their game-day magic to attract top recruits.

Colorado Buffs’ 2025 recruiting push

The Colorado Buffs have been attracting high school talents since the start of the season because of their remarkable performance. A month ago, during their game against North Dakota, the team successfully flipped Northwestern’s three-star recruit and defensive back Antonio Branch. The surprising part is that the young player has already shown his loyalty to Penn State since June but couldn’t resist Buffs’ charismatic aura.

After announcing his flip to Colorado Buffs Branch, he highlighted the fact that not only was he impressed by their execution in the game but also felt a strong connection with the staff and nature, saying, “Besides the football, the atmosphere, the mountains, oh my God, the view of that was gorgeous. The people there were wonderful. Nice and loving. It felt like family.” Making young players feel like family is something head coach Deion Sanders is known for, and it’s paying off! Now, Branch isn’t the only one; players of the 2025 class like Mantrez Walker, Quanell Farrakhan Jr., Chauncey Gooden, and Alex Graham have also committed to the Buffs, drawn by Sanders’ unique approach.

Have an interesting take?

If the Buffs keep the winning momentum, there’s a good chance Julian Lewis could join their ranks too. With Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter likely heading to the NFL next year, the Buffs are preparing for a smooth transition. If all goes according to plan, losing stars to the NFL might not feel like a loss at all—with players like Lewis potentially stepping up, the future looks bright for the Buffs.
