Thriving on drama, Colorado is serving up the latest chapter. Fresh off a record-breaking run at Liberty, quarterback Kaidon Salter has the Buffs on his radar. At first glance, it’s a no-brainer—pairing Salter’s electrifying dual-threat skills with Deion Sanders’ high-octane offense sounds like a match made in football heaven. But with this thought, the senior is bullying the five-star phenom Julian Lewis, who almost was about to get the keys of Boulder’s QB1 sports car from Sheduer Sanders. The 17-year-old was already locked and loaded. Could Salter’s arrival threaten Lewis’ trajectory?

Coach Breeze was the first to sing this song on X, calling Salter’s potential move to Colorado a “bad business move.” He elaborated, “They already have their guy of the future unless his plan is to potentially go to Colorado for a year while they get Julian Lewis ready.” The underlying question is clear: does this move create unnecessary tension in Boulder? Kaidon Salter, a proven playmaker, could step in as an immediate replacement for Shedeur Sanders, who’s NFL-bound after this season. However, this setup might relegate Julian Lewis, who’s set to arrive in 2025, to a backup role—a position not many five-star recruits are eager to embrace.

And if Deion Sanders and Buffs do go for him it could be create a man management dilemma in the locker room. The Liberty standout shattered school records in 2023, showcasing a game eerily reminiscent of Shedeur Sanders and brings experience . With 3,200 passing yards and 800 rushing yards last season, Salter has the resume and swagger to keep the Buffs’ offense humming. Deion Sanders knows what he’s getting—a polished, dual-threat quarterback who can deliver big plays on command. But this raises the concerns about immediate impact outweigh the potential long-term strain it could place on the relationship with Lewis is what we believe.

On the other hand, Julian Lewis is the No. 1 QB prospect for 2025, Lewis has already been dubbed “the next big thing.” For Coach Prime, Lewis is the crown jewel of his rebuilding plan at Colorado—a player poised to take the Buffs to new heights. However, if Salter swoops in and dominates the spotlight, Lewis might find himself in an awkward position. As Breeze put it, “Unless they all agree to a plan where Salter holds it down and Lewis develops, this could get messy.” Would Lewis, a generational talent, be willing to wait his turn, or would this push him to explore other opportunities?

The stakes extend beyond Colorado’s QB room. For Deion Sanders, this decision is as much about optics as it is about strategy. Bringing in Salter signals a win-now mentality—a necessary step to capitalize on the program’s momentum. But at what cost? Balancing Salter’s immediate impact with Lewis’ long-term potential is a high-wire act that only a coach with Prime’s charisma and vision can attempt.

The pressure is on for Hugh Freeze and his staff to reel in a big-time signal-caller from the Transfer Portal. No QB? No way.

Enter Kaidon Salter—a name that should ring a bell for Freeze. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound playmaker not only brings four years of experience from Liberty but also has a history with Freeze himself.
