Can Jayden Jackson's defensive prowess save the Sooners from their offensive downfall this season?

Move aside cause there is a new star in town. The Sooners are having quite the ride this season. With 4 wins and 3 losses under their belt, HC Brent Venables definitely needs some new talent on that turf. After the 2 back-to-back blowout losses to Steve Sarkisian‘s Texan war machine, the Longhorns, and South Carolina, there is one guy on the defense who has the capability of turning things around for Brent Venables.

Enter DL Jayden Jackson. If you cannot win on the offense, then make your defensive line so strong that no one can break through. Jackson has become the SEC freshman you might wanna keep an eye on. And you know who’s more proud of him achieving this title other than his fans and current team? His high school. IMG Academy Football took to X to reshare a recent post by On3. On3 had put Jackson on the No.6 spot on the list of True Freshman Standouts. “💪🏽@JaydenJackson65#IMGFAM #ProtectTheBrotherhood,” IMG mentioned in their caption.

Marked as a 4-star by 247Sports, Jackson had shown quite the domination during his days at IMG. Pairing up with the IMG defense to bring in 30 forced tackles and allowing barely 3 points every game, he was a unit on that roster.

While the Sooners are yet to make it big this season, Jackson has managed to accumulate solid stats. Standing on 5 solo tackles and 1 sack, he was a key part of the defense against South Carolina and the Longhorns.

“He knows what he wants. He’s willing to sacrifice things that don’t help get him what he wants,” Venables mentioned while talking about Jackson’s dedication and commitment to the team. The Sooners have managed to crack the 9th spot on the top-run defense team, allowing barely 2.9 yards per carry. Even with star players like Da’Jon Terry and Gracen Halton on that turf, Jackson still has managed to make a name for himself. What’s left to see now is how the Sooners manage to bounce back after their disastrous run.

Losing to South Carolina had quite a ripple effect. The Sooners landed on the 128th rank in the FBS in total offense. In 7 games, the team has barely managed to reach 280 yards average. If you look at the Longhorns and Gamecocks showdown, the Sooners have only hit a combined 12 points. This is a huge pill to swallow for any Sooners fans. Back in 2023, the team had the top spot in terms of offense plays.

Carrying 41 points and a 500+ yards average in every game. This brings us to the latest development from the locker room. Seth Littrell, Sooners’ offensive coordinator, was quickly fired after the blowout losses. Venables had mentioned in a statement that although Seth has been a pillar for the Sooners’ offense, “our performance as an offense this season has not at all lived up to the OU standard and I felt a change was necessary now.” The responsibility of figuring things out now falls on the shoulders of Joe Jon. Can the Sooners make a comeback and cut it for the Bowls games? Let us know what you think.
