Did Jordan Young's choice expose hidden cracks in Clemson's seemingly solid football program?

Another day, another ditching story. This time it’s Michigan Wolverines debut HC Sherrone Moore, who was at the receiving end of a snub. And who struck off the Wolverines from the list? The Monroe (North Carolina) blue-chip recruit, Jordan Young. For quite some time now, the athlete had been dropping teases on social media about his next destination. On Saturday, he finally made up his mind and chose Dabo Swinney’s Clemson Tigers as his next home. Well, landing Young, did the Tigers land in trouble? Looks like the playmaker is already exposing the cracks in the program. But the HC hardly cares since he got a big thumbs-up from a true legend.

What a week for the Tigers! Swinney’s squad has beaten not one, not two, but THREE programs to emerge as the favorite of Young. The programs that got snubbed by the No. 5 athlete in the 2025 class are Florida State, Michigan, and N.C. State. The athlete was on campus for Clemson’s 59-31 win over N.C. State. Post which Young announced his Clemson commitment at his high school’s gymnasium. But looks like right after his commitment, the first thing he had to do was put Dabo Swinney and the Tigers down.

In an interview with the national recruiting analyst, Sam Spiegelman, the newly landed recruit chose fiery words to share his feelings: “They don’t just want me; they need me.” Well, no one is denying that there are some issues with Swinney and his recruiting game. Even though Clemson landed two three-star players, including defensive lineman Makhi Williams-Lee and offensive lineman Gavin Blanchard, in the past three months, they have lost four players.

The ones who left Clemson were cornerback Graceson Littleton, quarterback Blake Hebert, defensive lineman Isaiah Campbell, and edge rusher Bryce Davis. Even though Young chose to sprinkle some salt on Swinney’s fresh wounds, the HC has no other option but to turn dead ears. After all, the 4-star safety made history after becoming the first athlete to win back-to-back WSOCTV Big 22 Player of the Year Awards. Plus, he is credited with impressive stats with 18 receptions, 420 yards, and five touchdowns on offense. So Swinney is not quite bothered about Young’s sharp words and is soaking in the moment after landing a big praise from the GOAT.

Dabo Swinney’s successful attempt to turn critics into believers

All these years since the start of the NIL era have been surely tough ones for the Tigers HC. There has been a lot of trash talking about his coaching talent but all these subsided as Clemson emerged as one of the top programs in the country this season. The growth has been so impressive that ESPN’s College GameDay thought of giving Swinney a shoutout for his excellent work.

Have an interesting take?

And guess who couldn’t stop himself from showering the HC with praise? The 7x National Championship winner and the ex-Alabama HC Nick Saban. On Saturday, November 2, the retired HC stated, “People kinda wrote them off after the Georgia game.” Yes, the fans could not be blamed since Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs tore away the Tigers 34-3! But still, Clemson’s rich history is all that Saban wants to focus on, “They’ve won every game since. They’re averaging 45 points per game.” And then it was time for the TigersHC to find a place in his statement.

“They’ve got a young defense. That young defense has gotten better and better as the season has gone on. I think Dabo has done a fantastic job of having this team develop into a top team that needs to be considered for the ACC title,” stated Saban. Now if Jordan Young gets to know about the GOAT’s take on Dabo Swinney, will that change his views about the program?
