We are back with yet another recruiting poker game, where programs gamble their futures on the turn of a commitment. As National Signing Day looms, the tension is palpable, and one Tennessee commit may have just signaled he’s about to reshuffle the deck. The question is, will it be the Florida Gators who swoop in to collect the jackpot? It certainly looks to be going on the Billy Napier end.

The buzz started innocuously enough: a post from Sam Spiegelman on Instagram brings a Gators flip buzz, featuring elite prospects nearing decision time. Onnis Konanbanny, a 4-star cornerback out of Columbia, South Carolina, didn’t say much—he didn’t have to. Dropping a single eye-popping emoji, 👀,” in the comments was enough to send recruiting insiders and fanbases into a frenzy. Simple, but oh, so effective.

Onnis Konanbanny has been a Tennessee commit since August, a pledge Josh Heupel and Vols fans believed was firm. However, his recent official visit to Florida—the same weekend the Gators shocked No. 9 Ole Miss in The Swamp—told a different story. On the sidelines, the No. 42 CB of 2025 cycle soaked in the atmosphere alongside South Florida Express teammate and quarterback Tramell Jones Jr., who had just flipped to Florida from Florida State. “The energy in The Swamp was unmatched,” insiders close to the recruit shared, adding credibility to the growing flip rumors.

On the field, Onnis Konanbanny is as dynamic as they come. Standing 6-foot-0.5 and weighing 175 pounds, he finished his senior season with 64 tackles, three fumble recoveries, and one interception for Heathwood Hall Episcopal School. His knack for playmaking, combined with his poise under pressure, makes him one of the most sought-after defensive backs in the 2024 recruiting cycle. For head man Billy Napier’s Gators, landing a player of his caliber would signal a significant recruiting win amid a late aggressive push to dominate the SEC East.

But what’s next for Tennessee? Losing Konanbanny would sting, just after losing another 5-star commit, particularly in the context of an SEC arms race where each flip can tilt the balance. It raises questions about whether the Vols can re-secure his commitment or if they’ll have to turn to other targets to fill the void. As the clock ticks down to National Signing Day, the Vols may need to double down on their efforts to keep him in orange and white. This will hit Neyland personally after doing chomp for them, but the Gators chomped on them in return.

You think 4-star Onnis Konanbanny is the only one, then you’re wrong

Billy Napier and co. have a slew of flips to their name. The Florida Gators are closing out their recruiting push with flair, making major moves to flip key prospects from rival schools. Billy Napier’s staff has created a recruiting buzz after victories over LSU and Ole Miss, drawing top talent to campus. Recent flips include three-star offensive lineman Daniel Pierre-Louis from FSU and Stephon Shivers, a former Georgia commit. With 15 total commits, UF has climbed to No. 26 in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.

This past weekend, Gator Nation was buzzing with top recruits. Konanbanny was surrounded by UF commits and other top prospects on Saturday afternoon, including Arizona commit Muizz Tounkara and FSU’s four-star Byron Louis, signaling the potential for even more flips. It’s clear Florida isn’t just playing the game—they’re flipping the script.
