Here we go again! The carousel is spinning round and round, faster than ever as transfer portal rumors swirl, and Deion Sanders and his Colorado program seem to be at the center of the storm. After all, when the Buffs’ official page dropped a hint yesterday with, “Former Liberty ⭐️ QB Kaidon Salter is planning to visit Colorado 👀,” the college football and high school world sat up straight.

Kaidon Salter, fresh off a stint at Liberty Flames, where he shattered records in 2023, is now looking for his next big stage. For a program like Colorado, already set to welcome five-star phenom Julian Lewis, this move raises eyebrows—and, for some critics, red flags.

Holding the Fort: Salter’s bridge to Julian Lewis

Coach Breeze, the host of Coolin’ It w/ Coach Breeze, minced no words in his assessment of the situation on X while sharing the Buffs post. “Bad business move,” he declared straight up, pointing to the potential clash of timelines between Salter’s arrival and Lewis’s readiness to start. He pointed out, “They already have their guy of the future, unless his plan is to potentially go to Colorado for a year while they get Julian Lewis ready… and Deion Sanders, Kaidon Salter, and Julian Lewis are all in on and agree with the plan.” So, unless Salter’s role is to hold down the fort while Lewis gets groomed, the move doesn’t quite add up. And for Breeze, this seems less like a calculated chess move and more like rolling the dice.

It’s hard to ignore the numbers that put Kaidon Salter on every coach’s wishlist. The 6-foot-1 dual-threat QB was electric in 2023, leading Liberty to a 13-1 record and a Conference USA championship while throwing for 32 touchdowns and rushing for over 1,000 yards. But his performance dipped this season, with a modest 15 touchdowns and 1,886 passing yards. That drop-off might explain why Liberty isn’t where he wants to finish his collegiate career. Still, his ceiling is sky-high, and Colorado could be the perfect spotlight.

Is Deion Sanders taking a gamble with Kaidon Salter, or is it a genius move?

Yet, Colorado’s quarterback room is already buzzing. Shedeur Sanders, Deion’s son, is most likely headed for the NFL Draft, leaving a vacuum that the 21-year-old senior Kaidon Salter could fill. However, the Buffs also secured the services of Julian Lewis, a true freshman who’s already being hyped as the next big thing. Balancing Salter’s immediate readiness with Lewis’s long-term potential could be a tricky dance, especially for a program looking to change their QB1 back after a 9-3 2024 season.

Critics like Coach Breeze may have valid points about the risk of potential locker room drama, but if anyone can pull off a high-wire act, it’s Deion Sanders. The man has turned Colorado into a must-watch program, and adding Salter to the mix might just keep the cameras rolling. As the podcaster put it, “If they’re all in on the plan, then maybe it works. But man, that’s one high-stakes bet.” This seems more of a quick call to action as their current #2 leaves.

Is Kaidon Salter a quick fix for Deion Sanders and the Buffs?

Maybe. After bagging the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year and the prestigious Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, Shedeur Sanders is officially gearing up for the next chapter of his football journey. Well, that is for sure! His acceptance of an invite to the East-West Shrine Bowl cemented his trajectory toward the NFL, where mock drafts already have him pegged as a top-five pick. With a skill set as electrifying as his father’s charisma, Shedeur’s dual-threat ability has been the heartbeat of Colorado’s offense under Coach Prime.

As Sanders departs, Colorado is bracing for a new era. And they might not have to wait long to find his successor. Enter Salter, a quarterback whose style mirrors Shedeur’s dynamic playmaking while having experience. Should Salter choose Colorado, he could seamlessly slide into the role and keep the Buffaloes’ offense humming with his ability to excel with both his arms and legs. While Salter would be a near-instant solution, Coach Prime has also locked in the future with Julian Lewis for the 2025 class.

The plan seems genius: let Salter handle the reins while Lewis marinates and develops into the next face of the program. Just another roll of the dice in college football’s wild, wild West? He is weighing his options still, so saying anything would be too early.
