Chiefs talk baby! Nothing better than seeing that your hood still has your back. Just look at the case of Mater Dei Monarch High School’s very own backyard-grown route-runner Nikko Remigio. The now 25-year-old man was once a high school kid, still chewing up yards. As the Cali native now does for the Mahomes-led side as the LVIII Super Bowl champion.

The 5 ft 9,  187 pound, Nikko Remigio, runs through the side for the NFL outfit Kansas City Chiefs. Until now, he was in the practice squad for the Chiefs. But as few hours ago, Mater Dei posted an Instagram story, sharing the post by a Chiefs reporter, for their alum, that read, “Congratulations @nikkoremigio”, with their famous Monarchs trident. What’s the occasion? The Chiefs signed WR Nikko Remigio to the active roster!

The Orange, Cali-born, Monarchs’ preseason performance showed flashes of what makes him special. Through three games, he turned heads with 133 yards on kick returns, 42 yards on punt returns, and 52 yards on seven receptions. While those numbers didn’t initially secure him a spot on the Chiefs’ 53-man roster, his efforts left a lasting impression. And now, after spending the regular season biding his time on the practice squad, Remigio’s patience has paid off. “Every rep, every snap—it’s about proving you belong,” Nikko Remigio said earlier this year, embodying the blue-collar mindset that has defined his football career.

So, what’s next for Remigio as he dons the Chiefs’ active roster? Initially, he’s expected to make his impact on special teams, where his agility and explosiveness could provide Kansas City a needed spark. With key players in the Chiefs’ wide receiver corps battling injuries, there’s also a chance he sees offensive snaps. Given his quick cuts and reliable hands, don’t be surprised if the former Monarch grabs his first NFL reception sooner rather than later. Sunday Night Football against the Chargers could very well mark his debut.

Mater Dei’s celebration underscores how much this milestone means—not just for Remigio, but for the Monarchs’ storied program. From the hallowed halls of Mater Dei to the electric atmosphere at Arrowhead Stadium, his rise is proof that hard work and patience eventually pay off. But wait, did we discuss the about his college days?

He racked up 74 catches for 852 yards and six touchdowns, added 42 rushing yards with two more scores on six carries, and turned heads as a punt returner.
