Jim Courier On Rafael Nadal Pulling Out Of The US Open
In a recent interview, Jim Courier was asked whether Rafael Nadal owed it to tennis to appear at the US Open. The four-time Grand Slam Champion replied by saying, “As the defending champion, you want to see him there. But it’s understandable given how they have had to compress the season… With a player who has had a history of having physical problems and breaking down on after playing hard courts, I think it’s pretty easy to put yourself in his shoes and say, ‘Listen, he’s going for his 13th Roland Garros title and he wants to give himself the best chance to do that.’ I think if Roland Garros would have been in front of the US Open, he would have undoubtedly played the US Open.”
Rafa also admitted that a fast transition form hard to clay would be dangerous for his body. Lke Courier said, he wouldn’t want to get injured again especially before the French Open where he could set more records.
