Novak Djokovic played a vital role during Serbia’s run in lifting the 2010 Davis Cup title. In hindsight, that moment proved monumental as Djokovic started the 2011 season on a record-breaking 41 match winning streak and clinched three Grand Slam titles that year. Recently, during an interview with Nova S, Filip Krajinovic celebrated the 10th anniversary of winning the Davis Cup.

Evoking memories of their historic victory, Krajinovic hailed Djokovic’s pivotal role in helping Serbia win the 2010 Davis Cup. Currently in Belgrade, Djokovic has opened all the 15 tennis courts at the Novak Tennis Center for the Serbian tennis players.

Training together for the 2021 Australian Open, Krajinovic acknowledged the support and guidance imparted by Djokovic to all the fellow players preparing for the next year’s season.

“There are 15 of us on the Novak tennis courts, we are getting ready and training, we don’t know what, but we are hoping for the Australian Open. It’s nice that Nole is there too, he gives us advice, thank you for that,” said Krajinovic.

Presently, ranked No.31, Krajinovic expressed his desire about defeating Djokovic on the court. But he admitted the enormous challenge posed by Djokovic, especially in the crucial moments.

Terming Djokovic as the hero of the nation, Krajinovic fully understands the monumental task it is to defeat one of the greatest players of all time. Krajinovic has lost to the 17-time Grand Slam champion on both occasions this season, at the Italian Open and then subsequently at the Vienna Open.

“It is difficult with Novak, he is a hero of the nation, an idol. But I want to win, I think I can do it. We had a very difficult match in Rome, he only won me after two sets, then I missed the set ball in Vienna, but it was a great experience for me. I hope to beat him soon. But, maybe your hand is shortened in important moments when you know that the best of all time stands across the road,” admitted Krajinovic.

Djokovic will aim to win a record 9th title at the Australian Open next year and will most likely move past Roger Federer‘s record of spending 310 weeks at the No.1 ranking.
