Bethesda announced their first original game in 25 years called Starfield. They initially released the teaser trailer for the game during E3 2018. Since then, fans of Bethesda games have been really excited for the game to come out. Apart from the teaser trailer, however, Bethesda hadn’t released any further information about the game.
Naturally, fan expectations grew with the announcement of next-gen consoles. Many hoped Starfield would be part of the launch lineup of these consoles and therefore might release in 2020. However, there are only a few days left till the launch and the game is still a long way off from launch.
To quench the fans’ thirst, James Batchelor from GamesIndustry.biz talked to Tom Howard, Head of Bethesda, about Starfield during the Develop: Brighton Conference 2020.

Starfield will be single-player and still has a long way to go
The highlight of the chat was John’s opinion on the game’s timeline. He said in the interview that “it’s going to be a while” until we see Starfield. This comes as a huge disappointment for those who’ve been waiting for a long time. The fact that there is still a lot of uncertainty about the game makes it difficult for fans to hold on to the hype.

The other important thing that Tom mentioned about Starfield is that it will be a single-player game. Therefore, fans will not be able to enjoy the game with their friends.
Firstly, the developers are reimagining the engine behind the game. The developers have plans for a huge overhaul of the Creation Engine. They plan to integrate procedural generation into the engine, which will prioritize algorithmic generation over manual generation.

Secondly, the game will also have a larger world with bigger maps as compared to the previous games. Therefore, players will have much more to explore in Starfield. Finally, the game will be launched as a part of the Xbox Game Pass. This comes as a part of Bethesda’s recent deal with Microsoft for the next-gen Xbox consoles.
While there is much uncertainty about Starfield’s timeline, the future of the game does look bright for whenever it comes out.
