Along with US Open 2020, there is another tournament going on in the world. The annual tennis tournament of Austria, Austrian Open Kitzbuhel, is currently in full swing. However, the entire nation is fixated on the flushing meadows as Dominic Thiem becomes the first Austrian to reach the semi-finals of US Open. Along with his countrymen, his friend, world number 13, Diego Schwartzman is also proud of him.

Diego Schwartzman is Proud of Dominic Thiem

Schwartzman advanced to the quarterfinals of the Kitzbuhel ATP 250. In the post-match interview, he was asked about Thiem and whether he will win his first Grand Slam. Schwartzman replied cheekily that everyone is calling him “Dominic’s Friend” instead of Diego Schwartzman.

He said, “He’s my friend. He is doing so well… very very well in the US Open. I hope, maybe, this is his chance you know. He has the chance to win a Grand Slam and he really deserves to win… I wish him a lot of luck in the semifinal and I hope in the final again.”

“I had a great feeling from the first moment on,” said Thiem, “There is no Roger, Rafa, Novak, but there is Daniil, Sascha, and Pablo now,” he said. “There are three other amazing players. Every single one of us deserves this first major title. Everybody will give it all. Once we step on the court, those other three are forgotten anyway.”

Schwartzman is also the second seed in the ongoing ATP 250 tournament. He will face Laslo Đere in the quarterfinals.

Previously, Schwartzman defeated Sebastian Ofner 6-2, 2-6, 7-5 in the round of 16. At the US Open, Diego was seeded at number 9 but lost in the very first round.
