Alistair Overeem bagged a huge win at UFC Fight Night 176 at Jacksonville. And apparently, that win has given him his last title run, as he wanted.
Dana White spoke to Megan Olivi after Overeem’s duel with Harris. He said, “It was a big win. Now he needs to get one of these top-five guys. He needs a fight in the top-five.”
And there we have it. The 40-year-old “Demolition Man” will now look to make his final run at Heavyweight gold. And judging from the performance he gave in Florida, he is just as dangerous as ever. Maybe, even more.

He survived an early barrage of devastating strikes at the hands of Harris. As resilient as he is, he suffocated under pressure. Nevertheless, he found his space by refusing to give in and ended the first round on top of Harris.
While any normal fighter would be at least a little dazed, Overeem entered the second round determined not to slip again. After a few moments into the round, he landed a high kick right to Walt’s head and followed it up with a left hand.
Walt fell to the ground and Overeem capitalized by entering a turtle position and landing right hands at Walt’s head. In one of the best comebacks in recent times, Overeem emerged the victor via TKO.
When will Alistair Overeem fight next?
Overeem is one fighter who is always evolving. He has been around for a very long time, and the evolution inside him is always visible. Both ground game and his striking have improved manifold.

Thus, he might just be better equipped for a run at the title than he ever was before. However, we might have to wait for that to happen. Here’s what Dana had to say regarding Overeem’s next match at the Heavyweight division:
“The Heavyweight division is a little backed up right now. We gotta get Stipe and DC going. Francis is champing at the bit to get his next shot and deservingly so. So we’ll get things moving here soon.”

Thus, there is still some time before the division starts running smoothly again. Nevertheless, a guaranteed Overeem fight at the top-5 tier is something that undoubtedly excites the fans.
