Tennis champ Roger Federer recently tried to clarify his stance on the entire controversy surrounding his deal with Credit Suisse.
Now, Switzerland’s Greta, Marie-Claire Graf has asked Roger Federer to move beyond words and back them up with some action.

“A conversation with him and the CS would be important to discuss our climate demands and our demands on the banks. He has to prove that he is really serious about his statement and openly ask Credit Suisse to phase out fossil fuels – or take the consequences and end the advertising deal.”

Roger Federer had finally decided to respond to accusations after Greta Thunberg called him out for supporting an environmentally irresponsible corporation.
Roger Federer had said that he takes the effects of Climate change very seriously. This was especially pronounced for him in the current scenario where Australia is going through one of the worst bushfires in its history.
He also praised the efforts of young climate activists – “I am grateful to the young climate activists that they are forcing us to review our behaviour and look for innovative solutions. They owe and it and we owe it to ourselves to listen”
Roger Federer also signalled that he will have conversations with his sponsors about their activities.
“I am also very aware of my responsibility as a private individual, as an athlete and as an entrepreneur. I would like to use this privileged position for dialogue with my sponsors on these important issues.”
His offer received a positive response from young climate activists.

“I was quite surprised by the statement. I think it’s nice that he doesn’t avoid the whole thing. It’s really not about accusing Federer as an individual, but rathet above all to demonstarate the intolerable practices of CS. We are always very open to explain and discuss them in conversation”- says climate activist Andri Gigerl.

As things are going, Roger Federer’s actions will hold great importance for his reputation as a role model. He will have to change the course of things, either through conversation, or a complete end of agreement with his sponsors.
