John Oliver roasts snack companies’ video games
Oliver started talking about the snack video games from 7UP and Cheetos. Naturally, he roasted both the companies; however, he admitted that their efforts were significant. In addition to that, he commented,” Of course, 7UP and Cheetos made video games. Their mascots already look like video game characters. A less extreme snack brand would never make one. Hey, hey, hey, HEY!! Chex Quest.”

In 1996, Chex, who produces cereals products, made a video game called Chex Quest. He ruthlessly commented on Chex’s video game and cereal products.
” The cereal that comes in the flavor of wheat, rice, and corn, even though all three taste like the box it came in. That Chex licensed the game engine from fu**ing DOOM. It made the game with absolutely non-stop violence, putting copies of it in boxes. Why did Chex do that?”

They then played the video of the creative director of Chex, complementing their decision for Chex Quest. He confirmed they fit six million copies into six million boxes of cereal and all of them were gone in just six weeks. Furthermore, this idea helped them a lot as the sales of Chex cereals went up 248%.
After this comment, Oliver couldn’t resist himself and said,” It’s true. For six weeks in 1996 Chex cereal fu**ed, and that is true. That is the transformational reality-bending quality video games could bring to boring brands around the world today.”

Back in 1999, Pepsi released an action game developed and published by KID for the PlayStation called Pepsiman. The idea was to promote kids to choose Pepsi drink by getting attached to Pepsiman who was Pepsi’s eponymous superhero mascot.
To this Oliver commented,” Pepsiman, Yes, PEPSIMAN!! that is a real game that human beings made. They even made a cover art which I can only describe as what is an aluminum can was a power top. Guaranteed 100% this thing comes with Pepsi. Incidentally, don’t look that up don’t Google h**ny Pepsiman. Don’t do that, look at me. I’m trying to protect you don’t do that.”
