Novak Djokovic’s unbeaten run this year has caught everyone’s attention. The world number one has now won 20 matches since the start of the year, without a loss. Many are now debating whether Djokovic could finish 2020 without a single defeat. Among all the attention Djokovic’s record has caught, one particular point of view – and one that Novak Djokovic would not be too happy about – is Nick Kyrgios.

The Australian took to Twitter to express his opinion on Djokovic’s comments about potentially getting through the year unbeaten. The Serbian superstar chose to not jump the gun. He said that he would be happy to achieve that milestone, but that isn’t his goal.
Nick Kyrgios takes another shot at ‘unbeaten’ Novak Djokovic
“Anything is possible…I don’t want to count that out, because we don’t know what the post-US tour is going to look like…but it’s a long way. It’s not my goal to go unbeaten, but I wouldn’t complain if I do,” Novak Djokovic said after the win against Tennys Sandgren at the Western & Southern Open.
Speaking about this, Kyrgios applauded Djokovic’s efforts. But he was then his usual tongue-in-cheek self when he took a dig at Djokovic that was visibly directed at the ill-fate Adria Tour.
“Hell of a tennis player. May go unbeaten in 2020, can’t take that away from him,” Kyrgios wrote. “Unfortunately when he was supposed to show some leadership and humility he went missing. Majority would say he has taken an L (loss) regardless.”

The heart of the matter
Nick Kyrgios criticized the likes of Borna Coric, Alexander Zverev, Grigor Dimitrov, and Djokovic on multiple occasions over the Adria Tour incident. The players, except Zverev, tested positive for the coronavirus after visuals emerged of them ignoring social distancing protocols. Kyrgios and Coric also had a back-and-forth Twitter spat.

Recently, Djokovic finally opened up about the Adria Tour that he had organized. He said that it was wrong to blame one individual for the entire incident. He also said that he feels sorry for those who were infected at the event, but also said that the tour had been organized with the right intentions.
Even when he announced that he wouldn’t be playing at the US Open, Kyrgios criticized Djokovic and the others. He said that he hoped certain players would follow safety protocols in New York.
