The 25-year-old Madhya Pradesh middle-order batsman, Harpreet Singh experienced a pleasant turn of events as he received a contract from RCB. He was left unsold at this year’s IPL auction in February due to a case of mistaken identity. Hours before the auction, there were several reports of Harpreet Singh driving his car onto one of the platforms of Andheri railway station.

The news, however, was incorrect as it was Harmeet Singh who was involved in the incident. Although the mistake was corrected later, there was a lot of confusion about the subject during the auction. And the teams did not want to risk buying a player who may be involved in a police matter. Harpreet was disappointed as he was expecting an IPL deal owing to the good form he showed in Syed Mushtaq Ali inter-zonal T20 tournament and 50-over Vijay Hazare Trophy.

However, he received a call from RCB on Wednesday night to replace the injured Sarfaraz Khan in their squad for the rest of the tournament. It will be interesting to see if he can find a place in the playing eleven of the star-studded Bangalore line-up. The all-rounders of the team like Shane Watson and Stuart Binny have not performed up to the mark. And Harpreet’s ability to bowl right-arm medium pace might tempt the team management to give him a look. They have a big match lined up next as they prepare to take on the Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on Sunday.
