It is a perfect recipe for a heated reception for the new championship leader from thousands of passionate Italian fans, and this is exactly what was served. Italians are among the most passionate of fans and if angered, there will be consequences.
As soon as Hamilton stepped onto the podium, tension rose in midst the mighty Red Horde of Monza. With Mercedes beating Ferrari, reducing the latter to third, more than half a minute behind the Silver Arrows, Italian Ferrari fans were definitely not impressed. “You know what – I love it here in Italy, I love the passion of the fans especially the Ferrari fans. The energy – you never get to see it apart from Silverstone so I love it. I am happy. The team did an amazing job. The start was a bit difficult as the grip was quite low. It’s a great day and result for us. Today was all about the team pulling together and maximising the car. It was fantastic. I look forward to coming back here next year and for the rest of this season.”
Following the win at Monza and owing to Vettel’s P3, Hamilton now tops the Driver’s Championship table. With 7 race weekends to go, the battle for championship between Hamilton and Vettel is more heated than ever.
