Simona Halep has silently made her way to the top in Women’s Tennis. Still hunting for her first Grand Slam title, she has been seeded second at the Flushing Meadows, just like the previous year.

But despite having a 4th round appearance as her best showing at the USO, why is Halep being considered the only one between Serena and history?

The former French Open finalist, Halep’s most suitable surface is the hardcourt, and she has been in decent form since her Wimbledon disaster.

Many would argue that Kvitova has better odds than Halep, especially after winning a tune-up tournament, but Halep has a better game for the courts of New York. She decided to take a week off before her first match at the Open, and looks fresh to make a long run in the tournament.

Another thing that Halep has been doing well is keeping the pressure on Serena, she has been talking more about the American rather than herself in interviews and has constantly diverted all the attention. So, no pressure at all!

Rightly so, no one- well at least the viewers- expects Halep to win, but she has the game to beat any player in the tour- even the mighty Williams, who is the center of all the buzz all the time!

The soft spoken Romanian, can easily go through to the finals, for  the top seeds have fallen, with the likes of Ivanovic and Sharapova not in the competition anymore. She has beaten Williams in the recent past but has lost to her as well.

You’d still pick Serena to go all the way, but if there’s anyone who has the slightest of opportunity to spoil the party-it’s Halep.
