NPD has been tracking the sales records of video games since 1995. However, prior to its inception, NPD’s Toy Retail Survey Tracking was responsible for providing tangible figures to keep a track of numbers. These numbers also point towards the trending games. One such title that is missing from the list of the top 20 games of the month of August includes GTA 5.

GTA 5 wasn’t on the list of the best selling games for the month of August that caught the attention of Jeff Grubb and many others. It’s not like GTA 5 has stopped performing but just points to the fact that Take-Two has stopped providing digital sales records for the public NPD best selling titles list.

However, it’s not like the digital sales records haven’t been provided. It’s just that the publisher has autonomous control over the inclusion of digital records in the best selling tiles list that is made public.
