Grigor Dimitrov scalped one of the biggest upsets at the Rolex Paris Masters 2019, as he brushed aside last week’s Vienna Open champion Dominic Thiem in straight sets 6-3, 6-2. Grigor Dimitrov stunned a fresh and confident Dominic Thiem in a near flawless performance to make it to the quarterfinals of the Masters 1000 tournament.

Grigor Dimitrov was playing at a level that was compared to his famous Roger Federer upset at the US Open 2019. Dimitrov looked like he was seeing the ball much bigger than Dominic Thiem, and was not backing away from the baseline in a quality performance right from the first game. He did not take his foot of the pedal, as he went after Thiem relentlessly, securing a double break in the second set as well.

Despite this loss Dominic Thiem is guaranteed a spot at the ATP World Tour Finals next month. However, Thiem will be disappointed with his loss, as he was very much in contention for the title here, after winning titles in Austria and Vienna. With multiple seeds falling yesterday, including the shock upset of Daniil Medvedev and Matteo Berretini, Thiem would have loved to capitalize on the results. However it was no to be as Grigor Dimitrov was dialed in and was pulling off some spectacular shots with ridiculous ease.
