After an incredible closed beta run, Valorant underwent a full global release earlier in June. Even in the beta stages, the game surged the gaming charts and posted astonishing viewership numbers. The smooth gameplay on offer and unique character designs appealed to the player base, adding to the skyrocketing popularity of the 5v5 tactical shooter.

Riot Games dubbed the first season of Valorant as Episode 1: Ignition and introduced tons of new content and adjustments. The developers added a new map set in Italy called Ascent, and a new agent, Reyna, joined the combat roster. Moreover, update 1.0 patched in a new game mode and made several tweaks to existing maps, as well as agent abilities.

However, Valorant’s competitive mode from the closed beta didn’t make the cut. The omission left rank grinders disappointed. Now, there is official word that ranked mode will soon make its way into the tactical first-person shooter, for the first time since full release.

Valorant ranked mode is on its way

Valorant game director, Joe Ziegler, treated fans to the good news via a Twitter post. He confirmed competitive mode will likely return next week but didn’t specify a date.

To answer the biggest question: rated (competitive mode) will likely be out sometime next week,” the game director wrote.

He explained the team will utilize this week to ensure the ranked mode is fully prepared for a release. “We’re spending this week putting together that release and making sure it is good.

Previously, in the patch notes for Update 1.0, the team stated that they would make some necessary adjustments to ranked Valorant based on player feedback from the closed beta version.

The developers opted against introducing ranked mode directly into the full game as their primary focus was to make it more stable and balanced. They also wanted to provide players with steady servers before initiating competitive matchmaking.

Back in the beta days, the devs first let the players get accustomed to and learn the game. Only after that, they allowed ranked play. Similarly, after Valorant’s official launch, the team gave the same courtesy to new players. Since those players have a hang of the tactical gameplay now, the team will eventually re-introduce rated Valorant.

This is good news for rank enthusiasts who have eagerly waited for the return of Valorant’s competitive mode. For now, there are no additional details about how the ranked system will work in the official game, or if it will implement the same method as before.
