The Turkish side Besiktas are in need of a new striker after selling Demba Ba to Shanghai Shenhua (China). Reports suggest that Mario Gomez is the man set to replace Ba on a two year contract worth €5 million a season which apparently is half a million more than what he earned in Florence. The German just turned 30 this month . His tenure at Fiorentina had been dominated mostly by injury problems due to which he made only 47 appearances and scored only 14 goals in all competitions.
Ahead of Senol Gunes’ first season in charge, the attacker is surely hoping to make an impact. He arrived at the Artemio Franchi in 2013 from Bayern Munich on four year deal but has failed to make the most out of it due to his from and fitness. He has also represented VfB Stuttgart.
This will be the year when Mario hopes to make a comeback for his national side and make a mark in the European Championship too, but pressure and money seemed to have swayed him to Turkey.
Fiorentina’s General Manager said: “For Mario to Besiktas, it’s practically all done. We’re down to the final details.”
Besiktas have also confirmed it on their Website.
