Not many wedding ceremonies generated such high-profile coverage as the marriage between Greg Norman and Chris Evert. The 2008 wedding in the Bahamas was a brief and high-profile union between two of the sport’s most recognized faces. Looked upon by 140 guests and relatives, the ceremony was decorated and planned to be one of the most lavish weddings between sports personalities, and it didn’t disappoint.

Back in 2008, the two superstars were well past their retirement. But their stardom followed, which ensured all cameras were on the couple for their extravagant wedding.

Despite the stigma around their previous marriages, the couple was excited to make their vows in elegant surroundings. They chose the Bahamas as their spot while hiring mainstream wedding planners to make necessary arrangements.

“They wanted a romantic wedding,” event planner Mary Fanizzi Krystoff said, who was also responsible for decorating the outdoor ceremony and reception areas with cream and blush florals. “They wanted their friends and family to enjoy a wonderful weekend together.”

The wedding gowns and suits were also helmed by top fashion icons. While Evert wore a wedding gown by Carolina Herrera, Norman’s suit was designed by Ermenegildo Zegna.

Ahead of the wedding weekend, the couple also arranged golf and tennis events for their guests. Additionally, wines from Greg Norman Estates were served at both the Friday rehearsal dinner and Saturday’s reception.

How did the pair’s children react to their wedding?

Before marrying each other, Norman and Evert went through multiple marriages and divorces, in which they bore children. The former Australian golfer initially wed Laura Andrassy when he was still playing on the tour. The marriage lasted for more than two decades until they split in 2007, a year before Norman married Evert.

On the other hand, the tennis great went through two marriages before marrying the LIV Golf CEO. She wed John Lloyd and Andy Mill before the turn of the century.

But their children from previous marriages were in attendance for their parent’s wedding. The youngest of Evert’s children, son Colton, served as ring bearer, and sons Nicky and Alex walked her down the aisle. Also present were Norman’s daughter Morgan and son Gregory Jr., both in their 20s back then. The latter also served as his father’s best man at the wedding.

The couple’s brief union was seen as a testament to the challenges faced by high-profile athletes in maintaining a long-lasting relationship. Alas, the couple split up barely 18 months after their wedding. Since then, Norman had married Kirsten Kutner, while Evert hasn’t taken vows thereafter.
