Despite Their Ugly Split Greg Norman Once Acknowledged Ex-Wife Chris Evert’s Contribution in Making His Golf Game ‘Aggressive’

Words of praise from your wife can be a worthwhile moment especially when your better half is an 18 Grand Slam winner. It’s been more than a decade since Greg Norman tied the knot with Chris Evert. Though they looked adorable together, their marriage was short-lived as they filed for divorce 15 months later. Nonetheless, we take a look back at a precious moment from their married life when Evert motivated her then-golfing husband, with heartwarming words.

In 2008, the legendary sporting couple got married in the Bahamas. The news sparked excitement and admiration towards the icons and hoped for their long-lasting love. Nonetheless, the marriage failed and broke the hearts of both Hall of Famers, as well as their fans.

Despite that, the love between Norman and Evert did exist and had many moments that would lead the fans to go in awe of them. We take a look back at one such incident from their 15-month marriage.

The former sporting couple was considered the greats in their respective sports. Norman won two majors while also remaining as the number-one golfer in the world for 331 weeks. Whereas Evert is widely noted as one of the greatest tennis players of all time with 18 Grand Slam titles to her name. 

Despite winning so many trophies, the Tennis star still felt she could have added a lot more to her congested trophy cabinet, as she once spoke to Norman about it. According to the LIV CEO, Evert once told him, “I’ve never met anyone with your drive and determination and if I’d had that behind me I would have been more successful”.

Following Chris Evert’s words of praise, Norman too had something in return for the Tennis star. He said, “I feel the same way. I probably wouldn’t have played quite so aggressively if I’d had the benefit of Chrissie’s game management skills and probably won more”.

Undoubtedly, both legends could have achieved a lot more if they had adopted each other’s skills from early on. Nonetheless, that doesn’t undermine the legendary careers both of them had in their respective sports. Though their marriage failed, it is their character and feats in the sporting world which makes the fans still reminisce about their legacy.
