Ever since he has been in the spotlight, Rory McIlroy has had his share of praises. However, with good also comes the bad. McIlroy, in 2014, received a massive backlash for dumping his fiance, former tennis star, Caroline Wozniacki. However, what looked like an ugly step to the world, received backing from a renowned etiquette expert, Jacqueline Whitmore.
Days after McIlroy called off the wedding, the CEO of EtiquetteExpert.com, Whitmore, indulged in a conversation with Time Magazine. During the conversation, she expressed her views on the incident, labeling McIlroy’s emotional wedding-ending statement as ‘courageous”.

Rory McIlroy received some support after dealing with massive criticism regarding his break-up
Walking down memory lane to 2010, Rory McIlroy and Caroline Wozniacki made headlines for being the hottest couple in the sports world. Being together for two years, the two announced their engagement in December 2013. Subsequently, a couple of months later, the two further planned their marriage and distributed the wedding cards. However, little did their well-wishers know that the invitation would go on to mark the end of their relationship.
A couple of days after distributing their wedding cards, McIlroy issued a statement, announcing an end to their engagement. While he asserted that the split was mutual, he refrained from shying away to admit that the problem was his.
A part of his statement read, “The problem is mine. The wedding invitations issued at the weekend made me realize that I wasn’t ready for all that marriage entails. I wish Caroline all the happiness she deserves and thank her for the great times we’ve had. I will not be saying anything more about our relationship in any setting.”
His actions not only left Wozniacki in a devastated state but also received hate from the sports world. However, in a time of distress, it was Whitmore who came in support of McIlroy. “It’s mighty big of him to assume that responsibility,” she said.

Going ahead in the conversation with TIME, she further admitted, “I don’t think it’s necessary to stay. But it’s an extra step he’s taking probably because he feels bad not only about breaking his fiancé’s heart but also for the families involved. I think it’s courageous of him to take that responsibility.”
