Enjoying his time off the golf course, the American sensation recently stood up to the duty of supporting his friend, tennis great Serena Williams. The golfing sensation headed to the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York to cheer for Williams, who is playing the last tournament of her career.

Similar to Tiger Woods, Serena is also counted as one of the elite sporting entities. However, last month, the tennis great took the world to shock as she announced her retirement from the game. Possibly the last tournament of her career, Serena opted to play the grand slam, where it all started: The US Open.

Winning the first round with ease, Williams faced second-seeded, Anett Kontaveit for a three-set thriller. Giving a glimpse of her iconic self, the tennis star won the first set in an action-packed tiebreaker.

While Serena won the first set, she suffered a downfall in the second. However, making a comeback with her impressive performance, she went on to win the match 7-6, 2-6, 6-2. Moving ahead, she is next set to face Australia’s Ajla Tomljanović.
Woods played a major role in Serena’s retirement
Serena Williams and Tiger Woods enjoy a deep bond of friendship between them. Over the years, the two have time and again, come out in public, addressing each other as the ‘G.O.A.T.’ Ever since her retirement announcement, Williams has been the talk of the town. However, not many know that Woods had a major role to play in Serena’s retirement.
In the in-famous VOGUE write-up, Serena admitted that she headed to Woods for retirement advice. She recalled her conversation with the golfer, “I don’t know what to do: I think I’m over it, but maybe I’m not over it.’ “

Going ahead in the conversation, she further opened up about the reply she got from the golfing sensation. “He’s Tiger, and he was adamant that I be a beast the same way he is! He said, ‘Serena, what if you just gave it two weeks? You don’t have to commit to anything. You just go out on the court every day for two weeks and give it your all and see what happens.’ “

Obeying Woods’ advice, the player is enjoying her time at the Arthur Ashe Stadium. This isn’t the first time Woods has come out to support Serena. Over the years, Woods has regularly been spotted supporting Serena Williams at the US Open.
