Hatton, being an Englishman, is an avid soccer fan. The golf pro supports Liverpool Football Club, which plays in the English Premier League. Hatton is, unsurprisingly, supporting England to go on and win the World Cup. But the pro has watched almost every game this World Cup and has been regularly tweeting his views.

Why was Tyrrell Hatton unimpressed with the Portuguese team’s performance at the FIFA World Cup?

Hatton sat down to watch the match between Portugal and Morocco in the World Cup quarterfinals today. Portugal fell behind in the 42nd minute, with Morocco taking a one-goal lead. “Go 1-0 down and Portugal turns this into the diving world championship,” Tyrrell tweeted shortly after.

The golf pro was referring to the number of times the Portuguese players dove to the ground after conceding a goal in the hope of claiming a free kick or a penalty and giving their team a chance to match Morocco’s score. He certainly thought this was unsportsmanlike and didn’t approve.

An hour later, the match ended with the heartbroken Portuguese players losing by the same score to Morocco. Tyrrell again tweeted, praising the Moroccan team and writing, “Fair play to Morocco, making history representing your country is pretty cool.”
